The students were required to design an ORIGINAL butterfly wing pattern that explores and incorporates the design elements of line and shape and the design principles of pattern and symmetry. The design must lend itself to the opportunity of having colour added at a later stage by participants engaged in the SLAM event commemorating World Mental Health Day. Each butterfly will be printed by SLAM onto recycled paper for a colouring-in book. Apart from designing the pen + ink finished art, students were required to contribute their own colour version of their butterfly wing pattern / design.
The effective use of the space allowed (A4 size paper) was also a consideration.
